Wratsangka stands apart in the world of wayang kulit. A key figure in the Mahabharata epic, he's neither a clear-cut hero nor a simple villain. His kinship with both the noble Pandawas and their rivals, the deceitful Kurawas, casts him in an enigmatic light, making Wratsangka a fascinating figure of loyalty, betrayal, and inner turmoil.
Wratsangka's Lineage and Appearance
Wratsangka is the son of Arjuna, one of the heroic Pandawa brothers, and Drupadi, their shared wife. Yet, he is raised within the Kurawa court, creating a lifelong tension within him. While physically handsome, like most wayang heroes, Wratsangka's inner conflict often distorts his expression, highlighting the struggle between his two lineages.
